WHAT is Yoga?

curve.png

Yoga is a mind and body practice with a 5,000-year history in ancient Indian philosophy. Various styles of yoga combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. The word “yoga” means “union” and refers to the spiritual union between the mind and the body. By controlling the breath and holding the body in steady poses or “asanas”, yoga creates harmony within the body. Asanas are specifically designed to sculpt the body, release muscular tension, and tone internal organs. By linking breath with movement, yoga strengthens the mind-body connection. Regular participants benefit from less stress and anxiety, a centered mind, and an enhanced sense of well being. Health benefits include lower blood pressure, increased strength, and greater flexibility. Regular yoga practice at Serenity Yoga Studio will cultivate mindfulness and presence for a healthier lifestyle. But most importantly it's a place to heal your mind, body and spirit. A place to come home to without judgment, and a get to know yourself. Yoga is medicine.
