I have never been one to not eat before yoga. I am not saying I need to have a full blown meal but defiantly something in my stomach 30 minutes prior to class. I know some schools of thought are to practice on an empty stomach and refrain from water while practicing. In a Hot Vinyasa class refraining from water is helpful because the practice is designed to internally heat your body. Every time you take a sip of water you are essentially cooling the body off. Here are my go to foods prior and after class.

Make sure you finishing eating at least 30 minutes prior to class.

Green Smoothie Protein Shake (My fav is from one of my recipes)

1 cup dairy free milk or coconut water

1 large celery stick 1 cup blueberries 1 scoop plant based protein

1 tablespoon ground flaxseed meal 1 tablespoon raw, organic honey or stevia to taste (optional) Banana & Peanut Butter

Handful of Almonds

Light Yogurt

After yoga is where you want to refuel the body. Here are my energy boosting recipes

Eggs & Tortillas

Serves 1

3 tablespoons coconut oil

2 eggs, scrambled

¼ onion, diced

¼ red bell pepper, chopped

½ cup spinach

2 brown rice tortillas

Sauté onion and red bell pepper in 2 Tablespoons coconut oil. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and scramble eggs and spinach. Fill Tortillas and serve

Dairy Free Berry Smoothie Bowl

1 cup canned coconut milk

1/2 of a soft avocado

1/2 soft pitted Medjool date

5 drops vanilla liquid Stevia

Pinch of sea salt

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

2 tablespoons collagen protein

1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (optional)

8 ice cubes




Toasted coconut


Blend all the ingredients until smooth.

Transfer the smoothie into a bowl and top with strawberries, blueberries and toasted coconut.
